IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING TO IMPROVE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL LEARNING (IPAS) OUTCOMES OF THIRD-GRADE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Abstrak

Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) is a subject that aims to help students understand natural phenomena and the relationship between humans and their environment. However, third-grade elementary school students often experience difficulties in understanding IPAS concepts, especially in lessons that require direct observation and simple experiments. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) method. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative approaches using Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 25 third-grade students of SD Negeri Sedep 01 in the 2026/2027 academic year. In the first cycle, students conducted an activity to identify the effect of sunlight on bean growth, while in the second cycle, students learned about changes in the states of matter through an ice cream-making activity. The results showed that the implementation of the PjBL method improved students’ learning outcomes in IPAS. The average student score in the first cycle was 75 with a learning mastery percentage of 69%, while in the second cycle the average score increased to 87 with a learning mastery percentage of 96%. Therefore, the Project-Based Learning method is effective in improving IPAS learning outcomes for third-grade elementary school students.
